Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance found in all the cells of the body, which is used to make hormones, vitamin D, and substances that help digest foods. While the body typically makes all the cholesterol it needs, it is also found in animal-sourced food, such as egg yolks, meat and cheese.
