Given that every CULTURESCOPE episode comes packed with goodies, each standalone segment merits a closer look.
In this video, taken from Season 1, Episode 13 of CULTURESCOPE, host of the popular web series Paul Lambis interviews comedian Stevie Georgiou.
Georgiou, eponymous host of Georgiou’s World (follow also here), was just 11 years old when he and his family moved to Cyprus, and his British mindset was something out of the ordinary for the locals.
Today, having embraced his multifaceted background, he classes himself as a mix of Brummie, Cypriot and working class culture, all into one giant melting pot. And naturally, as online creator and star of Georgiou’s World, he expertly mines the contrasts between each of those elements, weaving them into comedic gold.
“The character that I play is actually me, so I’m not really playing anybody – I play myself and I’ve always been a big believer of portraying yourself on camera,” he says.
“Because if you use a character, I think there’s so far you can take it; if it’s yourself, whatever new material comes about and so on, you’ll portraying yourself onto that material, and it’s a constant – constant thing.”
