Every year, thousands of tonnes of space debris rain down on earth.
Most of that material is so small, it gets completely vapourised when hitting the atmosphere. But occasionally, a chunk will survive its fiery descent, falling to the surface as a meteorite.
To date, over 50,000 meteorites have been discovered, offering astronomers a unique chance to study other places in the solar system directly.
That said, it can be near impossible to tell where a meteorite comes from… but in June 2018, as we learn in this video, thanks to some elaborate forensic astronomy, scientists were able to accomplish this feat.
